Auburn knocks off Samford 9-4

Kyler Deese hit his first career home run in a three-run seventh inning as Auburn defeated Samford 9-4 on Tuesday at Joe Lee Griffin Field.

Former Briarwood Christian star Daniel Robert keyed the Tigers' win with a pair of doubles, two runs scored and two RBIs. He stretched his career-best hitting streak to nine games.

Ben Craft, another former BCS star, drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.

Auburn starting pitcher Rocky McCord (2-2) got the win and Justin Camp picked up his fifth save.

For Samford, former Oak Mountain star Heath Quinn went 3-for-5 with a home run and one RBI. It was his sixth homer of the season. Former Eagles teammate Richard Greene also had a hit.  

Jesse Travis took the loss for Samford in relief of former Spain Park pitcher Tristan Widra. Widra pitched four innings, allowing three runs on five hits and striking out one.

With the loss, Samford falls to 11-15 overall on the season. Auburn improves to 18-11 with the win.
