Briarwood's dramatic goal line stand preserves victory

by

The Briarwood Christian Lions staged a last minute goal-line-stand and scored three different two-point conversions in a 24-22 win over the Gardendale Rockets.

Walker Lott scored passing and running touchdowns, and added passing and rushing two-point conversions to lead the Lions.

Victor Gerald rushed for 102 yards on 21 carries, and added both a touchdown and two point conversions for Briarwood.

With six minutes left to play, the game was tied at 16.  Lott’s rushing score and conversion gave the Lions an eight point lead.

Gardendale scored with less than a minute remaining to cut the deficit to two points, but their conversion attempt was held off by the Lions goal-line defense.

Next week, the Lions hit the road for a trip to historic Talladega High School.
