The Briarwood Christian School football team hosted Homewood High School for a play date on Thursday, June 30.

Having traveled to Oak Mountain and Mountain Brook on Tuesday and Wednesday, the Lions participated in organized team activities with another school for the third day in a row.

"I was very pleased that any mistakes we made were made hustling, and that the kids were really trying hard," Briarwood head coach Fred Yancey said. "They were a little dead legged, but I didn't hear any complaining about that."

The teams kicked off the hour-and-a-half session by playing three on three, with each offense swapping possession every few snaps. Eventually, they progressed to seven-on-seven play.

Lions senior quarterback William Gray looked poised as he ran the first-string offense. The team's returning starter, he'll aim to build on his experience this fall.

Overall, Yancey said it was a productive day.

"I liked the good, hard work we got done today," Yancey said. "Any time you're working against Homewood, you're working against one of the better teams in the state."
