Oak Mountain finished off its regular season on Tuesday night with a sweep of Gadsden City, as the Eagles prepare for the start of the Class 7A state baseball playoffs.

In the first game, the Eagles took a 13-3 victory. They jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings, but Gadsden City got three back in the top half of the fifth. Oak Mountain used the fifth and sixth innings to score eight additional runs and put the game out of reach.

Eight hitters drove in runs in the opener for the Eagles, including a pair from Mason Williamson, who went 2-for-3 with a run scored as well. Ethan Holsombeck (both doubles), Gene Hurst, and Jake Elkins also picked up two hits.

Scott Fleming picked up the win on the mound, throwing four innings, allowing three runs on four hits and four walks, while striking out three.

The Eagles took the second game 6-0, scoring three runs apiece in the second and fourth innings. Caleb Floyd rapped a pair of doubles and Elkins went 2-for-3. It was a group effort on the mound, as Will Driskill, Elkins, Michael Flack, and Floyd combined for the shutout, allowing just three hits.

Oak Mountain finishes the regular season with a 27-11 record, and has won ten of the past 11 games. The Eagles also eclipsed the second most wins in school history with 27, and has set a single season program record for hits in a season; a mark that currently stands at 348.

The Eagles will travel to Vestavia Hills on Friday at 4:30 p.m. for a playoff doubleheader. If necessary, Game 3 will take place at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
