The Oak Mountain High School volleyball team dominated Thursday night’s match at Spain Park, winning the Class 7A, Area 6 bout 25-22, 25-20 and 25-16 in a sweep.

Spain Park was unable to recover from a five-set showdown against Mountain Brook on Tuesday night, and it showed, as the Jags fell to 1-2 in the area.

“You got to come out and give the same energy as on Tuesday, and that’s hard to match in one week,” Spain Park head coach Kellye Bowen said. “(Oak Mountain) played lights out and we played on our heels the entire game.”

Torie Denkers was a big factor in keeping the Jags on their heels, as she finished with a game-high 13 kills, punishing the ball repeatedly throughout the match.

While Spain Park has wrapped up the three-game slate in Area 6, Thursday’s win put the Eagles at 1-0, with matches against Mountain Brook and Huffman remaining.

Mollie Grace Wade finished with 16 assists and a pair of kills, while Kathryn Beard followed right behind with 15 assists, four digs and an ace. Kaitlyn Lund and Kendall Scharbert each registered seven kills. Lund added three blocks and two aces, while Scharbert also had a pair of blocks and digs. Brianna Palmer had five digs and three aces.

Karlee Moss (12) and Marlee Johnson (11) each registered double-digit kills. Ellie Norton finished with 24 assists. Libero Christina Renta had six digs and Maddie Dease added five. Sha’Kevia Hogan put together six kills and four digs.

Oak Mountain plays in Hoover’s Over the Mountain tournament this weekend, while Spain Park is back in action next Tuesday as they host a tri-match.
