Friday's Spain Park, Oak Mountain rivalry game getting special attention

Friday’s Oak Mountain-Spain Park football game will be the fifth rivalry to be featured on the inaugural “MaxPreps Rivalry Series presented by the National Guard.”

MaxPreps, a California-based company that offers comprehensive high school sports coverage on maxpreps.com, and the National Guard will be on campus this week to share in the excitement and anticipation for Friday’s game.

MaxPreps and the National Guard will be present at the Oak Mountain High School Pep Rally as well as create an interactive “Game Day” experience for students during the game. After the game, the winning team will be presented with the Army National Guard Rivalry Trophy.

The Oak Mountain-Spain Park game is one of 11 rivalries in the country being showcased this year.

Oak Mountain comes into the game at 3-3, and Spain Park is 6-0. According to the MaxPreps rivalry site for SPHS and OMHS, Spain Park has dominated this series since 2004, winning the last seven games, and eight of the last nine. The Eagles are coming off two wins, including a 31-21 win over Chelsea last week.

The pep rally is scheduled for 2 p.m., and the game will be played at the Oak Mountain High Stadium at 7 p.m.
