Great performances not enough for Oak Mountain

A well played game with strong performances wasn’t enough for Oak Mountain to overcome three touchdowns by Wetumpka’s Charley Crenshaw in route to a 28-6 Wetumpka victory.

Oak Mountain’s star running back, Josh Gaines, was almost unstoppable with 180 yards rushing on just 16 carries.

Quarterback Warren Shader passed for a touchdown and completed 75 percent of his passes.  Avery Nguyen caught a touchdown pass, and Harold Shader added a 30-yard reception.

Despite the strong efforts by the Oak Mountain offense, the spectacular game by Crenshaw included a 99-yard kickoff return and two touchdown runs.

Other than the big plays by Crenshaw, the Oak Mountain defense did its job.  Jonathan Alvendia had 7.5 tackles, Riley Fowler made six stops, and Will Taylor added 7 tackles and a fumble recovery.

Wetumpka is now off to a 2-0 start, while Oak Mountain now looks to rebound from an 0-2 beginning.
