Eighth-ranked Oak Mountain (3-1, 2-1 Class 7A, Region 3) hosts Briarwood Christian at Heardmont Park on Friday at 7 p.m. in a non-region game. The Eagles overwhelmed No. 10 Tuscaloosa County 27-6 and vaulted into the Alabama Sports Writers Association at No. 8.

Chelsea (4-0, 2-0 in Class 6A, Region 5) steps outside region play and travels to Helena (3-1) in obviously the first meeting of the programs, since Helena opened this year. Chelsea continues to creep toward the Top 10 in 6A, getting the 12th-most points after routing Chilton County 42-7. But the real tests come the next four weeks in region play against Opelika, Ben Russell, Pell City and Oxford. Kickoff is at 7 Friday night at Helena.

Spain Park (3-2, 1-2 Class 7A, Region 3) dropped its second game in a row, this time losing a 64-63 four-overtime heartbreaker to Hewitt-Trussville. The Jaguars dropped to No. 10 in the latest poll. The Jags are off this week, awaiting a visit from Hoover and the TV cameras for a Thursday night game, Oct. 2, at 7 p.m. at Jaguar Field.

Briarwood Christian (2-2, 2-1 Class 6A, Region 5) got back in the win column last week when the Lions topped region foe Hueytown 14-7. The Lions make the short drive down 119 to Class 7A No. 8 Oak Mountain for a Friday night game at 7.
