Each of the last two years, Benjamin Russell has defeated Chelsea easily.

In 2014, the scoreboard read 42-13 at the end of the proceedings. Last fall, it was 42-24. But this year could prove to be a different story.

“Benjamin Russell is a great team and a great program that has beat us soundly the last two years. They are a really good football team and we are going to have to play well to have a chance next week,” Chelsea head coach Chris Elmore said following his team's win over Wetumpka, a 35-28 decision that should not have been that close.

The Hornets offense is off to a raging start, scoring 49, 43 and 35 points in their first three games, respectively.

Senior quarterback Matthew Marquet and running back Zalon Reynolds have seen the past two games against the Wildcats unfold, and are playing better than ever before.

Reynolds carried the ball 19 times for 143 yards in last week's game, while Marquet threw three touchdown passes.

Benjamin Russell's offense did not take off the runway in game one, scoring just 16 points in a 19-16 defeat to Central Clay County. The Wildcats rebounded to beat Pelham last week, 42-21.

Chelsea has started each of the last two years with identical 5-0 records, but did not play Benjamin Russell until the latter half of the year both times.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. in Alexander City on Friday night.
