Local high school basketball teams were in action last week, despite several games being cancelled over the weekend due to snow.

BRIARWOOD

The Briarwood Christian School basketball teams each played just one game last week, as the Lions traveled to Pell City on Tuesday.

The Lady Lions (2-4) dropped that game, 49-41. Leading the way on the scoreboard was Morgan Hutchinson, who scored 16 points. Lauren Smith added 12. The boys team (4-2) had better luck, as it won 66-55.

Games against Moody and Dallas County over the weekend were cancelled due to winter weather. Briarwood is working to reschedule both of those games.

This week, the Lions travel to Montevallo on Thursday and head to Chelsea on Friday.

CHELSEA

After picking up a pair of wins last week, the Chelsea High School boys basketball team has won three straight games. On Monday, the Hornets hosted Tuscaloosa County during the school day and came away with a 56-44 win. Daniel Washington led the way with 15 points, and Tyler Coleman added 10.

Chelsea picked up a 40-32 win at Homewood on Thursday, as the Hornets finished the game on an 11-2 run and are now 6-3 on the year.

The girls team dropped its only game of the week, a 79-37 loss at Homewood on Thursday, to fall to 0-9.

Snow forced Chelsea’s games at Calera to be rescheduled from Friday to Monday, and the boys game at Jacksonville State University on Saturday was cancelled. As for the rest of the week, the Hornets are at Clay-Chalkville on Tuesday and host Briarwood on Friday.

OAK MOUNTAIN

The Oak Mountain High School basketball teams were able to just play one game last week, as they visited Helena on Tuesday.

The Lady Eagles beat Helena 57-45 to improve to 7-3, led by 21 points from Kennedy Smith. Kailey Rory chipped in 14 points, and Abi Brown knocked down three 3-pointers in the game.

The boys team (5-3) fell to Helena, 23-17, in a low-scoring affair. Helena only led 5-4 at the half.

Oak Mountain was set to visit Vestavia Hills on Friday, but snow forced that game to be cancelled. Both teams are looking to reschedule the contest.

This week, both teams host Pelham on Tuesday. The girls play McAdory on Thursday, and the boys play Bob Jones on Saturday in the Birmingham vs. Huntsville Challenge at Wallace State.

SPAIN PARK

The Spain Park High School basketball teams played one game last week, as the Jags visited Ramsay on Tuesday.

Ramsay won both varsity contests. The Lady Jags (6-2) fell, 63-53, in overtime, as a tight four quarters turned ugly in the extra period, with Ramsay outscoring Spain Park 10-0. Ramsay also won the boys game, 84-64.

This week, the boys travel to McAdory on Tuesday. The girls head to Gadsden City on Tuesday and host Carver-Montgomery on Friday.
