Jonah Tibbs commits to Furman

Spain Park's Jonah Tibbs announced on Sunday his commitment to play football at Furman University via his Twitter page.

The 6-foot-2, 250-pound defensive end chose the Paladins over a number of schools following a strong senior season for the Class 7A runner-up. 

"I'm very excited for the opportunity that Furman University has given me, and to Spain Park High School, Coach Raney and the staff for putting me in a position to have it," Tibbs said. "Furman is a great academic institution with a great history."

Academics are a crucial part to Tibbs' decision, as he boasts a high score of 34 on the ACT.

"The goal for me is to be able to play the next 4 years to prepare me for the next 40 years," he said. "I feel Furman is the perfect fit for me and I am really excited to get there in June and get started."

The two-star prospect according to 247Sports finished the season with 20.5 tackles and two for loss, despite battling injury and missing five games towards the end of the regular season. 

Tibbs chose Furman over offers from Air Force, Army, and Jacksonville State among others.
