Langer runs away from field at Regions Tradition

Bernhard Langer fired four sub-70 rounds and cruised through the final round Sunday to claim the Regions Tradition title by six strokes over Olin Browne, at the Greystone Golf and Country Club.

In the 81-man field of the Tradition, which is one of the PGA TOUR Champions majors and does not have a cut, Langer was the only player in the field to not shoot a round in the 70s. He fired rounds of 66, 69, 69 and 67 to finish at 271 (-17).

The win gave him his sixth major championship and 27th overall title on the Champions Tour. It was also his 100th overall win as a professional.

“Yeah, it's very special to have won my 100th tournament as a professional golfer and to do it at a major means even more,” Langer said. “I had a nice advantage of four shots going into today and hit two fantastic shots on the first hole, driver and a wedge to about five feet, made that putt for birdie. That was a good start.”

John Daly was one of the most high-profile names in the field, and had a week that could be characterized as a rollercoaster. He finished tied for 15th, with three eagles, 17 birdies, seven bogeys, four double bogeys, and a triple bogey overall.

He said it was his first time playing at Greystone, and enjoyed his week at the course.

“The fans are so awesome,” Daly said. “I'm a(n) (Arkansas) Razorback and had all these Auburn, Alabama fans rooting for me. SEC, we keep everything in the family.”

Jeff Maggert, the event’s defending champion, finished in a tie for 38th at 1-over-par.
