The depth of the Spain Park High School softball program is starting to show itself, as colleges have begun to take notice of the talent on the Jaguars’ roster.

Left fielder Maddie Majors has committed to Auburn University, and is the third player on the current team to commit to a Division I program, joining Jenna Olszewski (Auburn) and Mary Katherine Tedder (Texas).

“I am very excited to play for Auburn University,” Majors said. “Coach C.J. (Hawkins) has prepared me for the next level by helping me create goals and achieve them throughout the Spain Park softball season.”

Majors played in all 59 games for the Jaguars in 2016 as a freshman, as Spain Park advanced to the state tournament and posted its best finish in school history, coming home with a runner-up finish in Class 7A.

She hit for .357 average and registered a .433 on-base percentage. Majors scored 35 runs and drove in 24 more.

Majors is content to let her on-field performance stand alone, as she is one of the quietest players on the Jags. That doesn’t make her impact any less, however.

“Maddie is a joy to coach,” said Hawkins, Spain Park’s head coach. “She is a strong, smooth, dependable, dynamic young lady. Her work ethic, academic excellence, competitive spirit, attention to detail, and supportive family makes her a wonderful addition to Auburn’s program.

Majors is excited to get to the Loveliest Village on the Plains after her final three high school seasons, as she is just a sophomore.

“Auburn is the right fit for me because it has a great coaching staff and I love the atmosphere,” she said.
