More than 20 area players make 2018 all-state soccer teams

Rice was named the Alabama Gatorade Player of the Year, as he finished a fantastic season with 35 goals and 11 assists. He was selected to the Class 7A all-state first team. 

Also from Spain Park, Haley Greene, Alyssa Young and Kayla Wiggins received first-team all-state honors. Greene finished the season with 38 goals and 27 assists. Young and Wiggins also heavily contributed, with six goals and 11 goals, respectively.

Rounding out the 7A team, Oak Mountain’s Ethan Acton, Patrick Guffey, Anaya Hunter and Julia Pack received first-team honors. Hailey Whitaker earned second-team honors.

The 6A team featured five athletes from Chelsea. Noah Lunsford was selected to the first team for the second consecutive year. Maddison Martin, Lexie Duca and Claire Guillen were selected to the first team as well. Kailey Littleford earned a second-team selection. 

Briarwood’s Logan Frost and Griffin Felton were named to the first team in 5A. The two were responsible for more than 50 goals and assists this spring.

On the 1-3A team, Westminster-Oak Mountain’s Brodie Winks, Price Leonard and Alex Poore received all-state honors, as they led the boys team to a state championship. Lauren Hoaglund, Katie Hoaglund and Morgan White were all selected to the second team.
