Oak Mountain 7th-grade team wins metro championship

The Oak Mountain seventh-grade Eagles defeated the Homewood Patriots to clinch the 2016 Metro Championship on Oct. 13 at Homewood’s Bob Newton Field.

Oak Mountain’s winning drive went 15 plays for 61 yards and consumed 5:08 off the clock. Evan Smith scored from the 1-yard line to put the Eagles within reach of the win. Smith then threw a pass to Cam Atkinson for the two-point conversion to put the Eagles up 14-13. The Eagles held on for the win.

Under the leadership of head coach Ronnie Clemens and assistant coaches Jason Neeley, Dustin Kennedy, Brandon Brooks, Scott Ridley, Jerry Toole, Dion White and Andrew Cromer, the Eagles went 8-0 on the season.

The team consisted of Quest Agee, Cameron Atkinson, Brock Brancato, CJ Branson II, Mason Burnett, Taylor Bush, Gray Cowart, Collin Crowder, Jack Driskill, Davis Gillespie, Xander Glenn, Houston Graham, Corbitt, Grundhoefer, KJ Jackson, Maddox Macrory, McCollum Mansfield, Andrew McCallister, Gavin Nelson, David Parker, Conner Prothro, Nic Rigdon, Charlie Serra, Evan Smith, Zach Smith, Will Stone, Mattox Vines, Caleb Webb, Cam Whitaker and Wesley Yeatman.
