Jags on road, other 280 teams home Friday

Spain Park (3-3, 1-3 Class 7A, Region 3) fell out of the ASWA Class 7A top 10 after a 42-14 loss to top-ranked Hoover last Thursday. The Jaguars look to break a three-game losing streak as they travel to Vestavia Hills (3-3, 2-2) for a region game Friday night at 7.

Oak Mountain posted a big Class 7A, Region 3 win when the Eagles knocked off Hewitt-Trussville 45-38 at Trussville. The Eagles (5-1, 3-1) moved up to No. 6 in the state in this week’s Alabama Sports Writers Association poll. They return home Friday to face region foe Mountain Brook (3-3, 3-1) in a game that will break a tie in the region for second place behind Hoover. Kickoff is 7 p.m. at Heardmont Park.

Chelsea went on the road to now-No. 4 Opelika and took a tough 60-14 loss last Friday. It was the Hornets’ first loss of the season. Chelsea returns home for another big region contest as Benjamin Russell visits. The two teams are tied for second place in the region behind Opelika. Friday’s kickoff is at 7 p.m. for the Hornets (5-1, 2-1 Class 6A, Region 3) and the Wildcats (6-1, 2-1).

Briarwood Christian hosts Pelham at 7 p.m. Friday. The Lions (2-4, 2-2 Class 6A, Region 5) are in a four-way tie for third place in the region after losing a 19-18 heartbreaker to Walker last Friday. Region opponent Pelham (2-4, 1-3) is coming off a 27-14 loss to Hueytown.
