Reed is ‘Mr. Irrelevant’

For one man, it’s almost beneficial to be taken a pick later than everyone else in the NFL draft. The final pick in the draft, in the seventh round and No. 253 overall, has an interesting moniker.

Former Briarwood Christian School football star Kalan Reed is this year’s “Mr. Irrelevant.”

Originally, the Denver Broncos had the rights to the 253rd pick in the draft, so a jersey was made with the number “253” on it and “Mr. Irrelevant” on the name plate.

However, the Tennessee Titans traded back into the draft at the final slot to select Reed, making the on-stage presentation a little odd. The Broncos jersey was held up by one of the presenters, and a Titans helmet by another.

Reed’s new distinction is not nearly as disrespectful as it seems. The perks of the pick are actually quite nice.

He gets to go to Disneyland and take part in a parade. He gets a Rolex watch. He has also been the recipient of a number of random items plastered in Skittles.

Reed spent his college years at the University of Southern Mississippi, and put together a nice career. In 2015, his senior season, he completed 50 solo tackles, second-most on the team. He broke up 19 passes and intercepted four.
