FOOTBALL

Briarwood

The Briarwood football team played its annual jamboree contest against Vestavia Hills last Friday night. Click here for a recap. This week, Briarwood begins its season by hosting Chelsea on Friday. 

Chelsea

The Chelsea football team began its season with a 17-0 loss to Oak Mountain last week. Here is a full recap of the game. This week, the Hornets travel to Briarwood for another local rivalry game.

Oak Mountain

The Oak Mountain football team began its 2019 season with a 17-0 over Chelsea last Friday night. Click here for a rundown of the action. This week, Oak Mountain takes its open date.


VOLLEYBALL

Briarwood

The Briarwood volleyball team began its season last week. The Lions fell to Faith Academy (25-21, 18-25, 25-27, 25-27) to begin the season on Friday before hosting the Serve-Off Tournament on Saturday. For the tournament, the Lions fell to Northridge (22-25, 15-25), Geraldine (12-25, 21-25), Muscle Shoals (21-25, 15-25) and Geraldine (18-25, 18-25) again.

This week, Briarwood travels to Pelham on Tuesday and hosts a tri-match with McAdory and Huffman on Thursday. 

Chelsea

The Chelsea volleyball team opened its season emphatically last week, ripping off eight wins and winning the Briarwood Serve-Off Tournament. The Hornets opened the season on Thursday by sweeping a tri-match with Alexandria (19-25, 27-25, 15-9) and Lawrence County (25-19, 25-20).

In the tournament, Chelsea beat Auburn (25-13, 25-18), Homewood (25-15, 25-17), McAdory (25-9, 25-10), Central-Florence (25-23, 25-12), Guntersville (25-16, 25-23) and Thompson (25-12, 25-17). 

For the week, Zoe LaBreche led the way with 60 kills, 40 digs and 12 aces. Amaya Rudolph had 43 kills and 13 aces. Victoria Schmer registered 107 digs and 11 aces. Bailey-Drew McIntyre chipped in 150 assists, 32 digs and 12 aces. 

This week, Chelsea hosts a tri-match with Oxford and Clay-Chalkville on Tuesday, travels to Gardendale on Thursday and plays in Albertville’s tournament on Saturday.

Oak Mountain

The Oak Mountain volleyball team began the season last week, posting a 3-2 record. On Thursday, the Eagles fell to Bayside Academy 3-0. Over the weekend, Oak Mountain played in Briarwood’s Serve-Off Tournament. The Eagles defeated Clay-Chalkville (2-0), Sylacauga (2-0) and Central-Florence (2-0), before falling to Homewood (2-1).

Landry Frisch led Oak Mountain with 14 kills, five aces, 26 digs and three blocks on the week. Avery Fletcher contributed 39 assists, 14 aces and six digs.

This week, Oak Mountain plays in a tri-match with Ramsay and Pelham on Thursday and hosts its tournament over the weekend.
