FOOTBALL

Briarwood

The Briarwood football team dropped its second straight game to begin the season last Friday, falling to Pleasant Grove in a Class 5A, Region 4 matchup. Click here for a full recap of the game.

This Friday, the Lions host Woodlawn in another region contest.

Chelsea

The Chelsea football team earned its second straight win last Friday, picking up a region victory over Carver-Birmingham. Click here for a recap of the contest.

This Friday, the Hornets will look to continue their momentum at home against Jackson-Olin.

Oak Mountain

The Oak Mountain football team came out on the short end of a shootout with Class 7A, Region 3 foe Hewitt-Trussville last Friday night. Click here for a recap of that game.

This Friday, the Eagles host defending 7A runner-up Thompson in another region game.


VOLLEYBALL

Briarwood

The Briarwood volleyball team picked up a couple wins last week to improve to 4-10 overall on the young season. The Lions lost to Homewood on Thursday before competing in the Muscle Shoals tournament on Saturday. There, the Lions defeated Florence and Shades Valley and lost to Arab, Priceville and Wilson. Here are some notable stats from the week:

This week, Briarwood plays a tri-match with Auburn and Benjamin Russell on Tuesday and a tri-match with Clay-Chalkville and Westminster-Oak Mountain on Thursday. 

Chelsea

The Chelsea volleyball team played one match last week, defeating Helena in an area matchup and improving to 16-1 on the season. Some notable stats from the match:

This week, Chelsea hosts Calera on Tuesday in another area match and hosts Shades Valley on Thursday.

Oak Mountain

The Oak Mountain volleyball team picked up three wins last week, sweeping a tri-match with Oneonta and Hayden on Tuesday and defeating Winfield in straight sets on Thursday. The Eagles improved to 13-3 overall. Here are some notable stats from the week:

This week, the Eagles travel to Hoover on Tuesday for a Class 7A, Area 5 match and host Ramsay on Thursday. Over the weekend, Oak Mountain will play in Bayside Academy’s tournament.


CROSS-COUNTRY

The Chickasaw Trails Invitational was held on Saturday in Oakville, with the likes of Chelsea and Oak Mountain taking part. Walker Cole of Oak Mountain finished fourth overall in the boys race, posting a time of 16:01. Miles Brush was Chelsea’s top finisher in the race, as he finished 22nd in 16:44. In the girls race, Evie Bell was Oak Mountain’s top finisher, as she finished 12th. Chelsea’s Teanna Cason came across the line 20th in 20:35.
