FOOTBALL
Briarwood
The Briarwood football team picked up the first win of the Matthew Forester era with a 38-20 victory over Class 5A, Region 4 foe Woodlawn last Friday night. Click here for the story of the game.
This Friday, the Lions stay in region play and travel to Wenonah.
Chelsea
The Chelsea football team continued its strong play, picking up its third straight win in a convincing victory over Jackson-Olin. Click here for a recap of the win.
This Friday, the Hornets head to Pelham for another region contest.
Oak Mountain
The Oak Mountain football team was unable to keep up with Thompson last Friday, falling to the Warriors in a Class 7A, Region 3 game. Click here for a recap of the game.
This Friday, the Eagles travel to Hoover for a third consecutive region matchup.
VOLLEYBALL
Briarwood
The Briarwood volleyball team won one of the three matches it played this week, defeating Westminster-Oak Mountain on Thursday after falling to Benjamin Russell and Auburn in a tri-match on Tuesday. Some notable stats from the week:
- Audrey O’Brien: 45 digs, 100% on serves
- Leah Coleman: 16 kills, 4 blocks
- Emma Crawford: 17 kills, 4 blocks
This week, Briarwood hosts Ramsay on Tuesday and heads to Mortimer Jordan on Thursday for a tri-match with Corner. Over the weekend, the Lions will play in Brooks’ tournament.
Chelsea
The Chelsea volleyball team continued its winning ways last week, winning a pair of matches against Calera and Shades Valley to improve to 18-1 overall. Some notable stats from the week:
- Bailey-Drew McIntyre: 68 assists, 16 digs, 8 aces
- Victoria Schmer: 25 digs, 14 aces
- Amaya Rudolph: 21 kills
- Zoe LaBreche: 20 kills, 11 digs
This week, Chelsea travels to Pelham for a Class 6A, Area 8 match on Tuesday and plays a tri-match at Homewood with Vestavia Hills on Thursday. Over the weekend, the Hornets will play in the Smiths Station tournament.
Oak Mountain
The Oak Mountain volleyball team now sits with a 15-7 overall record after a busy week last week. The Eagles lost to Hoover (12-25, 17-25, 17-25) on Tuesday and beat Ramsay (25-15, 25-7, 25-12) on Thursday.
Over the weekend, the Eagles played in the Battle at the Bay, hosted by Bayside Academy. Oak Mountain picked up a win over St. Luke’s (27-25, 25-26, 15-9) and fell to Bayside Academy (17-25, 12-25), Auburn (23-25, 17-25) and Northridge (18-25, 19-25).

- Landry Frisch: 41 kills, 39 digs

This week, Oak Mountain heads to Sylacauga for a tri-match with Clay Central on Tuesday before playing a tri-match at Spain Park with Montgomery Academy on Thursday. Over the weekend, the Eagles will play in Spain Park’s HeffStrong Tournament.
CROSS-COUNTRY
Chelsea and Oak Mountain’s cross-country teams participated in the Spain Park Cross Country Classic on Saturday. Oak Mountain finished fourth in the boys race and fifth in the girls race, while Chelsea placed sixth in both. Oak Mountain’s Walker Cole won the boys race with a time of 16:53, 10 seconds clear of the next finisher. Miles Brush was Chelsea’s top finisher, coming across fifth in 17:38. Chelsea’s Teanna Cason was sixth in the girls race (21:07) and Emma Grace Phillips (12th, 21:39) was Oak Mountain’s top finisher.
