The Reset: Eagles volleyball knocks off Spain Park

FOOTBALL

The local football teams were in action last week. Briarwood earned a 28-16 win over upstart Huffman on Friday in a Class 6A, Region 5 contest. Click here for a recap of the game. This week, the Lions are slated to travel to James Clemens for a non-region contest.

Chelsea took its open date last week. This Friday, the Hornets head to Pelham.

Oak Mountain fell flat in a 42-7 loss to Class 7A, Region 3 opponent Hoover last Friday. Click here for a recap of the contest. The Eagles take an open date this week.


VOLLEYBALL

The Briarwood volleyball team fell to Homewood in a Class 6A, Area 9 match last Tuesday, falling in three sets (26-24, 25-15, 25-11). Chelsea and Briarwood squared off in an area match on Thursday evening, with Chelsea taking a straight-sets victory (25-14, 26-24, 25-14). This week, Briarwood heads to Homewood for an area match on Tuesday before hosting John Carroll and Oak Mountain for a tri-match on Thursday. Over the weekend, the Lions will play in the HeffStrong Tournament at Spain Park. 

Chelsea fell to Mountain Brook in three sets (25-12, 25-19, 25-15) on Tuesday in an area matchup, but beat Briarwood on Thursday. The Hornets won the Silver championship in the Husky Challenge at Hewitt-Trussville on Saturday. In pool play, the Hornets lost to Gardendale (25-19, 26-24) and Thompson (25-23, 25-18) before beating Oxford (18-25, 25-15, 25-7). In bracket competition, they beat Springville (25-10, 25-3), Hewitt-Trussville (25-19, 25-17) and Helena (20-25, 25-23, 16-14). Here are some stats from the week:

Chelsea is now 23-6 overall. This week, the Hornets play at Pelham on Thursday.

The Oak Mountain volleyball team earned an impressive win over Spain Park on Thursday, defeating the Jags in four sets (15-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-21). Here are some stats from the match:

The Eagles are now 12-4 overall on the season. This week, Oak Mountain plays Vestavia Hills on Monday, Mountain Brook on Tuesday and plays in the HeffStrong Tournament at Spain Park over the weekend.


CROSS-COUNTRY

Briarwood’s cross-country team traveled to Tuscaloosa on Saturday for the TCBY Invitational. The Briarwood boys won the event and the girls finished third. Trent Malloy led the Briarwood boys by finishing second. Bela Doss placed ninth to lead the girls team.

Chelsea ran in The Southern Showcase in Huntsville on Saturday. Miles Brush finished fifth overall to lead the boys team, while Cady McPhail was fourth in the girls race.

Oak Mountain hosted the Oak Mountain Invitational at Heardmont Park on Saturday. Walker Cole won the boys race, as the boys team was third overall. Hunter Wright (12th), Noah Arrington (26th), Kenny Chavez (33rd) and Bryce Caton (42nd) also scored for the team. The girls were fourth, with Lauren Cole (11th), Katie Wright (25th), Avery Welch (33rd), Lexi Ray (34th) and Olivia Eldridge (42nd) the top runners.
