The Reset: Football teams fall

FOOTBALL

Last Friday, a couple of local teams took losses in non-region play. Briarwood traveled to James Clemens and fell 41-21 to the Class 7A foe. Click here for a recap of the game. 

Chelsea was unable to hang on to an early lead and lost 47-28 to Pelham. Click here for the details of that game.

This week, the teams return to region play. Briarwood heads to Shades Valley, Chelsea hosts Woodlawn and Oak Mountain plays Spain Park at home Friday.


VOLLEYBALL

The Briarwood volleyball team suffered an area loss to Homewood (25-8, 25-16, 25-15) last Tuesday. The Lions also fell to John Carroll on Thursday (25-19, 25-20). This week, Briarwood plays a tri-match at Ramsay with Parker on Tuesday and hosts Pelham and Shades Valley on Thursday.

Chelsea picked up a couple wins last week. The Hornets swept a tri-match on Monday, beating Hewitt-Trussville (25-17, 25-16) and Mortimer Jordan (25-21, 25-18). Chelsea fell to Pelham in four sets (25-19, 16-25, 33-31, 25-14) on Thursday.

The Oak Mountain volleyball team beat Vestavia Hills last Monday before falling to Mountain Brook in straight sets (25-14, 25-18, 25-12) Tuesday. Over the weekend the Eagles played in the HeffStrong Tournament. The Eagles beat Ramsay (25-14, 15-25, 15-11) but fell Montgomery Academy (25-18, 25-21) and Spanish Fort (25-17, 25-17). The Eagles are now 14-7 on the year. Here are some stats from the week:


CROSS-COUNTRY

The Briarwood and Oak Mountain cross-country teams competed in the Under the Lights meet at Veterans Park in Hoover on Saturday. In the boys race, Oak Mountain finished third and Briarwood placed fifth. On the girls side, Oak Mountain was second and Briarwood was sixth. Reese Bell (seventh) and Trent Malloy (ninth) earned top-10 finishes in the boys race, with Lauren Cole (eighth) and Emma Grace Phillips (10th) doing so in the girls race.
