FOOTBALL

Briarwood

The Briarwood football team earned its fifth straight win last Thursday with a win over Parker. Click here for a recap of the game.

This Friday, the Lions host Ramsay in a critical Class 5A, Region 4 game.

Chelsea

The Chelsea football team suffered its second consecutive one-possession loss last Friday night in a loss to Homewood. Click here for a recap of the contest.

This Friday, the Hornets head to Minor for a tough Class 6A, Region 5 matchup.

Oak Mountain

The Oak Mountain football team pulled away from Tuscaloosa County for its first Class 7A, Region 3 victory last Friday. Click here for a recap of the game.

This Friday, the Eagles head to Spain Park for another region contest.


VOLLEYBALL

Briarwood

Last Tuesday, the Briarwood volleyball team swept a tri-match with Wenonah and Tarrant. The Lions beat Wenonah 25-14, 25-10 and defeated Tarrant 25-8, 25-5. This week, Briarwood concludes the regular season by hosting a tri-match with Springville and Shelby County on Tuesday.

Chelsea

The Chelsea volleyball team put together a solid week and enters the final week of the regular season with a record of 45-3. The Hornets played a pair of tri-matches, splitting on Tuesday and sweeping on Thursday.

On Tuesday, the Hornets swept Tuscaloosa County (25-13, 25-19) and fell in a tight battle with Class 5A power Jasper (27-25, 25-27, 12-15). On Thursday, they blew away Brewbaker Tech (25-9, 25-18) and John Carroll (25-16, 25-17).

This week, Chelsea concludes the regular season on Thursday with a tri-match at Hoover with James Clemens.

Oak Mountain

The Oak Mountain volleyball team swept a pair of matches last week to improve to 28-12 overall on the season. The Eagles knocked off Northridge on Tuesday and beat Tuscaloosa County in a Class 7A, Area 5 match on Thursday. Some notable stats from the week:

This week, Oak Mountain plays in a tri-match at John Carroll with Calera on Tuesday and hosts Vestavia Hills on Thursday to conclude the regular season.


CROSS-COUNTRY

The Briarwood cross-country teams raced in Faith Academy’s Boardwalk Challenge on Saturday in Mobile. The boys team finished eighth, with Matthew Earnest (32nd, 18:24) the top finisher for the team. Jay Greene (45th) was also in the top 50. In the girls race, Adrienne Goolsby and Morgan Harris finished 27th and 28th, respectively.

Chelsea raced in the Helena Invitational on Saturday, with both boys and girls teams finishing third. Teanna Cason won the girls race with a time of 20:39. Avery Thompson placed seventh. Miles Brush came across second in the boys race. 

Oak Mountain also ran in the Helena Invitational, with the boys finishing second and the girls placing fourth. Lauren Cole finished fourth in the girls race in 21:11, while Kenny Chavez was fourth in the boys race in 17:55. Michael Marvin (eighth), Josh Scherer (11th), Bryce Caton (16th), Connor Moore (18th) and Luke Black (19th) all placed in the top 20.
