The Reset: Football, volleyball teams fall

FOOTBALL

The Oak Mountain football team suffered a 49-21 loss to top-ranked Thompson last Friday. Click here for a recap of the contest.

Chelsea turned the ball over four times in the opening quarter and never recovered in a 35-12 loss to Shades Valley on Friday. Click here for the story of the game.

This Friday, all three local teams conclude region play. Oak Mountain heads to Hewitt-Trussville, Chelsea travels to Mountain Brook and Briarwood heads to Homewood. 


VOLLEYBALL

Three of the local volleyball teams saw their seasons come to a close last week. Last Tuesday, Briarwood fell to Mountain Brook (25-20, 25-12, 25-16) in the opening round of the Class 6A, Area 9 tournament. In the same tournament, Chelsea lost to Homewood in five sets (16-25, 25-14, 22-25, 25-23, 15-4).

On Wednesday, Oak Mountain suffered a four-set loss to Thompson to end its season as well. 


CROSS-COUNTRY

The Briarwood cross-country team competed in the St. Bernard Oktoberfest Invitational in Cullman last Saturday. Trent Malloy and Joseph Bell finished 15th and 16th to lead the boys, while Mary Grace Parker (seventh), Bela Doss (24th) and Adrienne Goolsby (29th) paced the girls team.

Chelsea competed in the Last Chance Twilight Meet, hosted by James Clemens, on Saturday. Miles Brush won the boys race with a time of 15:35. Cady McPhail ran a great race as well, finishing second in the girls event.
