Grandview Medical Center has launched a new da Vinci system with its robotic-assisted surgery.
Grandview is the first hospital in the Birmingham area that has upgraded to this system, according to a press release, which can be used in minimally invasive surgical procedures in the areas of urology, gynecology, thoracic, cardiac and general surgery. The system translates a surgeon’s hand movements into smaller movements of delicate instruments inside the patient’s body.
“We are excited to bring this enhanced robotic-assisted surgical technology for minimally invasive surgery to the Birmingham area,” said Grandview Medical Center President and CEO Keith Granger. “We continue our commitment of bringing advanced technology, quality and an enhanced patient experience to those we serve.”
This upgraded system provides surgeons with access to areas of the body that can be difficult to reach, such as the chest or pelvis. A 3D-HD vision system also provides a magnified view to surgeons. The new robot with the system also allows surgeons to complete more procedures with a minimally invasive approach.
“The latest model of surgical robot it truly an upgrade in technology,” said urologist Dr. Eric Brewer. “This new machine allows us to continue to expand our repertoire and offer minimally invasive surgery to our patients, which equates into quicker recovery and return to normal daily activities.”
