Taco Mama, new shops coming to The Summit

A few more shopping and dining options are coming to The Summit. 

In March, the U.S. 280 shopping center announced Taco Mama is set to open this summer. Taco Mama owner Will Haver said they were not initially looking for a new location, but the storefront at The Summit was too good of a deal to pass up.

“It was an opportunity that came up,” he said. “The Summit is great, but it’s not something we were seeking out.”

The Summit will be Taco Mama’s fifth location, including Crestline, Tuscaloosa, Huntsville and Edgewood, which opened in February. Opening this location will be a faster turnaround than usual, Haver said, but he is looking forward to opening in another community.

“We love that Cahaba Heights is right behind us,” Haver said. “We think we’ll get a lot of people coming up the hill there.”

Taco Mama is set to open near Pieology and the Carmike Summit 16 movie theater. Haver said he thinks the restaurant will offer a fast restaurant for shoppers and moviegoers.

“Because our product is so quick, they might pop in for lunch or dinner before they go see a movie,” he said.

The Summit also opens up a new market, Haver said. While other locations are a little more secluded, The Summit is centrally located and brings in people who have not eaten at a Taco Mama before.

This location is about 2,200 square feet and will have a similar look to Taco Mama’s other restaurants, Haver said, including garage doors that open onto a patio area. The opportunity to open another restaurant is a blessing, he said. After almost 20 years in the restaurant business, he said it is exciting to keep growing.

“I’ve been on all sides of it, but I just pinch myself every day,” Haver said. “It’s a lot of fun, and our guests are unbelievable.”

Bevello is a women’s fashion boutique that focuses on a no-hassle shopping experience, according to its website. The company launched in 2009 and has expanded throughout the Southeast.

Lush

Opening in June

Lush cosmetics offers fresh, handmade cosmetics, skincare, hair care and bath products that are ethically sourced. The products are never tested on animals, and all products are vegetarian. The Lush location at The Summit will be about 1,550 square feet, and it will be the first Lush location in Alabama.

Soft Surroundings

Now open

Soft Surroundings is a women’s clothing store that specializes in stylish, casual clothing with a comfortable fit. The store also offers globally inspired home furnishings. Soft Surroundings has 28 stores in 17 states, and The Summit location is nearly 4,000 square feet.

American Threads

Opening in October

American Threads is bringing its first location to Alabama. The fashion boutique, which offers clothing, handmade jewelry and vintage items and gifts, is geared toward young women and indie styles, according to its website. The store will be 2,600 square feet.
