Approximately 25 years ago, Mechelle Wilder and her husband, Thomas, struggled to sell their first home. They enlisted the help of several real estate agents without having any success.
“When I became a Realtor some 18 years ago, that home was the first one I sold,” Wilder said. “That one transaction gave me the confidence that I needed to know that I could successfully sell real estate.”
Wilder helps people sell/purchase or, as she likes to say, “invest in homes that will provide a pathway to wealth.”
“I love the fact that I am able to make a positive impact on the economic future of my clients and this country,” Wilder said. “The real estate industry is the catalyst for dozens of other contractors who are involved in the process. Whether it is the loan officer, the inspector, the appraiser, the title company, the builder, the designer, the painter, the mover and others, I am helping to make a positive economic impact on each and every one of their personal lives.”
In 2013, Wilder was approached by Tommy Brigham, the former CEO of RealtySouth, to be a founding partner/owner in a new real estate company, ARC Realty. Since that time, ARC Realty has become one of the fastest growing real estate brokerages in Alabama with offices in Birmingham, Mountain Brook, Hoover, Montgomery, Wetumpka and Lake Martin. In 2017, ARC generated sales of more than $600 million and has attracted more than 300 top Realtors in the state.
Wilder understands the struggle of being a wife, mother and a full-time professional all at the same time.
“I am grateful that as a woman, I have a seat at the table,” Wilder said. “I am able to influence decisions that help our female Realtors and other women become more successful.”
Wilder has also amassed a list of professional accomplishments, including being named one of the 30 women who shape the state of Alabama in 2018 by the Birmingham Magazine and the 2019 MLS president for the 4,500-plus members of the Birmingham Association of Realtors. She is also a board member of the Greater Shelby County Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Overseerers Board for Samford University, 2018-19 class of Leadership Birmingham, plus a member of other boards and civic organizations.
When she isn’t hard at work in the real estate industry, Wilder makes time to continue her education at the Birmingham School of Law.
“I want to continue to invest in myself,” Wilder said. “Whatever your profession is, you should continually thrive to improve yourself so that you can better help yourself and others. That means being a constant learner.”
Wilder also puts priority in her family and her faith. She has been married 35 years to the Rev. Dr. Thomas Wilder Jr. and is the mother of four adult children.
She is a volunteer for Discovery Clubs of Alabama — an organization that teaches the Bible one day a week in public schools — and a church choir director and small group teacher at her church, the historic Bethel Baptist Church of Collegeville, pastored by her husband.
