Sara Beth Gilbert was thrilled and honored when her gymnastics coach asked her to assist with teaching at just 12 years of age.
She continued to hone her instructional and competitive coaching skills until graduating from college. After working as a technical writer for more than a decade, Gilbert bid farewell to the corporate world to return to her true passion.
Sara Beth’s Gymnasts has been so well received within the Chelsea community that she is seeking expanded gym space for the second time in just over one year in business.
Gilbert credits her ability to simplify concepts into manageable steps, along with women’s intuition, as the source for her instructional success.
“Most people don’t realize the depth of trust and mental commitment needed to try new and challenging skills. Most dismiss the value of mental strength and courage, and they focus just on the physical aspects,” she said.
In addition to budding gymnasts, Gilbert also caters to an often-overlooked group with whom she can relate.
“There aren’t a lot of places where adults can pursue recreational gymnastics. It’s important to me to be able to offer that,” she said.
The success of Sara Beth’s Gymnasts follows in the footsteps of Gilbert’s other small business in Chelsea, Splash Water Safety, which has offered swimming instruction for nearly seven years.
“Seeing someone accomplish something for the first time is magical. It never gets old for me, and I treasure those moments with every student.”
