MDA Muscle Walk of Birmingham
to
Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park 12632 Confederate Pkwy, Birmingham, Alabama
The MDA Muscle Walk is our organization's signature family event, known as our "largest family reunion". It is a hope filled and inspiring day of celebrating life, overcoming obstacles, and honoring individuals who are currently living as well as loved ones who have passed from neuromuscular disease. Leading up to the event, families and local companies form teams to raise awareness of muscular dystrophy as well as funds to help support MDA's mission. On the day of the event, the community comes together and celebrates with sponsor hosted activity stations, an honorary tribute balloon launch, and a united walk together on a 1 – 3 mile long, fully accessible route for everyone to enjoy.
Funds raised by the MDA Muscle Walk helps MDA continue to support critical research grants for neuromuscular disease worldwide, including three research grants locally here in Alabama. Locally, funds also help support services provided to over 1,300 children and adults of all ages in Alabama, including visits to local MDA Care Centers and sending kids across the state to experience “the best week of the year” at a fully accessible MDA Summer Camp. For many children who live with muscle weakness and disabilities related to muscular dystrophy, MDA Summer Camp is their opportunity to break out of their shell and experience activities such as swimming, zip lining, and more while creating lifelong friendships with other children just like them… all at no cost to their families.
