Shake and Bake
Mt Laurel 5 Mt Laurel Ave, Birmingham, Alabama 35242
On Aug. 5, runners will be taking to the streets of Mt Laurel for the 14th annual Shake and Bake run.
Originally started as a fundraising opportunity for different soccer ministries on behalf of Alabama Women’s Soccer Foundation, Houston Hollingsworth with Vapor Ministries said that last year was the first year the event worked with Vapor Ministries, raising $13,000. This year’s Shake and Bake will benefit the same organization, and Hollingsworth said they are aiming to raise $15,000.
“Vapor Ministries exists to glorify Christ by advancing the gospel and serving the poor,” he said. “One of the key ways they do this is through their discipleship-making soccer leagues at their centers in Haiti and Africa.”
The family friendly 5K will follow the same path through “the beautifully shaded Mt Laurel” as last year’s race and will be a USA Track & Field-certified course, Hollingsworth said.
After the race, Steel City Pops will be available, as will the nearby farmers market and community shops.
Registration is $20 and ends Aug. 4. Cash prizes will be given to the top two male and female finishers, and awards will be given to the top two finishers in each age group.
