If you wear glasses or contact lenses for nearsightedness, the last thing you want is for your vision to continue to decrease over time.
At Eyes on Chelsea Vision Care, Dr. Jessica Palmer and Dr. Rena Lewis work with their clients to prevent this from happening.
This service, called myopia management, aims to decrease the amount of nearsightedness through contact lenses or eye drops. It can keep patients' nearsighted prescriptions from getting worse, hence, preventing the need for thicker eyeglasses in the future.
“There are several big studies that support these treatments,” Dr. Palmer said. “We see patients every week who have benefited from them. Some nearsighted individuals are even able to go without glasses or contacts during the day due to wearing ortho keratology lenses at bedtime.”
Before opening the practice in 2007, Dr. Palmer worked in the field as an optometry technician.
“I began at a private practice at the Eye Foundation Hospital and worked my way up,” she said. “I love helping people to see more clearly.
“I envisioned Eyes on Chelsea Vision Care to grow with the community,” she said. “We have moved into a larger space to accommodate more than one doctor in the future, and we continue to aim to offer the latest and greatest glasses technology and medical equipment to our patients.”
In addition to myopia management, Eyes on Chelsea offers routine eye health examinations, glaucoma treatment, and vision therapy for eye muscle imbalances. It also offers cataract and LASIK pre- and post-operative visits.
Eyes on Chelsea stays current with the latest developments in eye care, prescription lenses and advances in contact lens technology.
“We take pride in building lasting relationships with our patients, which is why we take the time to get to know you, your vision requirements and your lifestyle needs,” Dr. Palmer said.
In 2022, Eyes on Chelsea is celebrating their 15th year since opening at the Narrows subdivision in 2007. It’s also their third year since the Chelsea Village location opened at 10699 Old Highway 280.
Over the years, Eyes on Chelsea Vision Care has grown to provide quality eye care to the Chelsea and surrounding communities with two office locations and six eye doctors.
“As a resident of Chelsea, I am truly honored to be a part of the local businesses and schools in our community,” Palmer said. “I have been so overwhelmed and pleased by the support of the surrounding community over the last 15 years. We are excited to be part of such a growing and supportive area.”
Dr. Palmer is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Alabama Optometric Association, the Birmingham Area Optometric Society and the University of Alabama, Birmingham, School of Optometry Alumni Association. She was awarded Greater Shelby County Optometrist of the Year in 2015.
