Q: How long has Medirest been in business?
A: Medirest has been in business for over 25 years. We are one of the largest privately-owned Durable Medical Equipment companies in Alabama, proudly calling Homewood home since 1996.
Q: What is Durable Medical Equipment?
A: Durable medical equipment (DME) is equipment that helps you complete daily activities, like walking and bathing, and can withstand repeated use.
Q: What type of services and equipment does Medirest offer?
A: Medirest offers rental, sales and service of items such as walkers, rollators, wheelchairs, lift chairs, and power wheelchairs with alternative drive controls. We also carry hospital beds and patient lifts, diabetic shoes and custom fit orthotics.
Q: Who benefits from our equipment?
A: Both patients and their caregivers benefit from the use of DME. We hope to ease the burden of caretaking while the patient is on their journey of healing after injury or illness.
Q: What do you wish people knew about DME?
A: Having a DME prescription filled is not as easy as filling a medication prescription. It takes a bit more time and paperwork on our end. On average, it takes a couple of days depending on the response from your doctor and\or insurance company to fill out our forms and return them to us.
Q: What is the process for getting equipment?
A: DME must be prescribed by a medical doctor, deemed medically necessary and then approved by the patient's insurance company. Only then can the equipment be distributed to the patient.
