The Chelsea City Council approved an amended contract with R.E.D. Inc. at its July 21 meeting.
The amendment to the city’s contract followed a need for conditional piping and moving “unusable dirt” from the parking lot at the Chelsea youth baseball fields along Highway 47.
Amending the contract meant a net increase of around $18,000, from the original $95,070 to $113,156.
Mayor Earl Niven also recognized a local Boy Scout who is looking to attain his Eagle Scout distinction. Kaden Christian will work on beautification around the Chelsea Community Center and construct benches for the area.
“There’s a lot of work that goes into this, not only in their project but leading up to the Eagle. We’re just so proud of you and what you mean to our community. Thank you in advance for what you’re going to do.”
The Citizen Observer Patrol brought up two dumpsters at the intersection of U.S. 280 and Highway 39, and Niven said he has discussed removing the dumpsters with the Department of Transportation.
“I have entertained several phone calls,” Niven said. “Chelsea had nothing to do with this – it was ALDOT. We have been in touch with ALDOT and we look very soon for them to make a change to where these are located.”
