Crafters display their wares in the Chelsea Community Center at a previous fall craft fair.
The annual Chelsea Fall Craft Fair will be held Oct. 10 beginning at 9 a.m. at the Chelsea Community Center.
The event showcases local vendors who create various items to sell at the fair.
“I think what makes this event special for people is you get to come and shop such a wide variety of things made by people from Chelsea and surrounding areas,” event organizer Jane Ann Mueller said. “The first year we had it, we had such a great response that people kept asking for us to keep having it. It has just grown over the years and it is now something people really look forward to.”
The indoor event will host roughly 75 vendors throughout the Chelsea Community Center. Admission is free, and participating vendors will offer items such as homemade knives, artisan breads, knitted and crocheted items, quilts, honey, jewelry and more.
Mueller said the Boy Scouts will be on site serving funnel cakes as a fundraiser for their troop.
“Registration opened in September and we already had about 50 people sign up to be a vendor,” Mueller said. “I have slotted 75, and we usually have a waitlist of about 10 to 20 people.”
Mueller said people who attend often enjoy the variety of crafts and foods offered at the event.
She expects roughly 500 people will attend the craft fair.
“We had the Farmer’s Market in the summer, and that offers a big variety of things but mostly food items,” Mueller said. “This is a bit different in that it offers a variety but less food and more homemade items.”
Mueller said the event does not make a profit for the city. Vendors pay $50 for a 10-by-10-foot space, and the event’s sole purpose is to bring the community together and showcase local small businesses.
“This is something where you come and maybe run into a friend you haven’t seen in a while, and you get to shop for things that you can’t find at most big-chain-type stores,” Mueller said. “This allows those with small businesses the opportunity to bring things they would like to sell, and it is just a lot of fun.”
The Chelsea Community Center is at 11101 Shelby County 47 in Chelsea.
The craft fair will end at 3 p.m.
Mueller said there will also be food trucks on site for those interested in purchasing food.
