AWC Baby Bird Shower
During the week of Sept. 6-12, the Alabama Wildlife Center will host their annual baby bird shower, only this year it will take place virtually.
Executive Director Doug Adair said the event is held to celebrate the more than 1,000 injured and orphaned baby birds that the center takes care of every year.
The public is invited to drop off donations from the center’s online wishlist during the week at their building located in Oak Mountain State Park.
“We hope that folks will tune in to our social media network and view pictures and videos of our baby bird patients and we also want to encourage folks to take a look at our virtual wish list online and if able love for them to make donations during virtual baby bird shower week to the AWC,” Adair said.
Shower guests can choose items from items on a wishlist and/or give monetary donations. Items can be dropped off at the AWC during the week and there will also be increased opportunities to meet the educational raptor birds during the drop off.
The AWC is an independent non-profit organization. Although their home is in Oak Mountain State Park, they have to raise all of the money they spend.
Adair said the COVID-19 pandemic has had a huge impact on the wildlife center, and because they are primarily a volunteer organization, their volunteers and resources have been limited.
“It has really stretched our resources, both financial and human, to the limit,” Adair said.
“Donations are a very important part of allowing us to do the work that we do. Everything on our wishlist and donations will help us provide food for those babies and really make it possible to do that work.”
All donations during the virtual baby bird shower week and support and donations are even more important than they would normally be, and Adair said they are just very grateful for anything they get.
Adair added, “We hope that people will embrace the cause of the AWC and give generously during baby bird shower week.”
