Central Alabama Wellness is hosting several community events throughout Shelby and Chilton County in March and April. The day is all about ending the stigma of mental illness and focusing on wellness.
“Be Well Shelby aims to help in the goal of total wellness,” said Executive Director Richard Fallin. "Mental Health is something we all face at some point during our lives, and we want to educate the community and stop the stigma of mental illness.”
Fallin said they want the communities to come together and learn from each other in a productive way to help each other live their best lives.
Each event will be from noon until 4 p.m. and is completely free. Free popcorn and giveaways will be available while supplies last.
The family friendly events will feature food trucks, a live DJ, moonwalks, carnival games, community resources, interactive games and more.
The goal is collaborate with community partners and educational or wellness organizations. Vendors are still needed for each location. Those interested can email info@centralalabamawellness.org.
“We want this day to be a fun day for families,” Fallin said. “We want this day to be a day where people with mental illness can re-engage in the community and to educate the community on mental illness.”
