April Brasher, BSN, RN, SANE-A, a SafeShelby Sexual Assault Nurse, was named the overall “Healthcare Professional of the Year” 2020 by The Shelby County Chamber.
The Shelby County Chamber hosted the 6th Annual Healthcare Professional of the Year Awards Program via Zoom on Aug. 26. The program was designed to recognize individuals who have made outstanding contributions in the healthcare profession.
The Chamber’s Health Services Work Group began seeking nominations in June to recognize individuals who have made an outstanding contribution in healthcare to our community. Any healthcare professional employed in the Shelby County area was eligible to be nominated.
The nominees were also to be dedicated to healthcare, having accomplished outstanding goals in discipline and outstanding status in the healthcare community. All of our nominees met this criteria.
During the virtual program, the guest speaker was Dr. Tim Ansley, owner of Inverness Eye Care and President of Alabama Eye Partners. Dr. Ansley discussed eye care in 2020 and hot topics including myopia, computer visitation syndrome, blue light and trygeminal dysphoria, and gave advice about taking computer breaks every 20 minutes, limiting blue light exposure and using blue filter glasses to block blue light and reduce the damaging effects of blue light exposure to eyes.
“Given that Shelby County is consistently ranked as the healthiest county in our state, it’s important to recognize these professionals who play an integral part in making that happen,” Chamber President & CEO Kirk Mancer said.“What’s more, recognizing our healthcare heroes – especially during the challenges created by the pandemic – is something we’re honored to do.”
