Chelsea Fire & Rescue is set to get some new equipment in 13 to 14 months.
During the first Chelsea City Council meeting of the month, the council approved a resolution that authorizes Mayor Tony Picklesimer to sign necessary documents to secure a $1,000,000 loan from Renasant Bank. That money will then be used to purchase a new, 107-foot ladder truck to be used by the fire department.
Several of Chelsea’s fire fighters were present at the meeting, and Chief Wayne Shirley thanked the Mayor and council for their support.
“This has been in the planning stages, I found out earlier, since 2015,” said Mayor Tony Picklesimer. “… I appreciate all that you do, and it’s our pleasure to provide to you the equipment so that you can provide the service you do.”
The ladder truck will take between 13-14 months to build before it is delivered to the city, Picklesimer said.
Picklesimer also announced that drawings and designs to modify the city’s building on Highway 51 are underway. The building will be the home of the city’s third fire station at some point in the future, he said.
The council also approved a resolution authorizing the mayor to sign a contract for an additional year with The Retail Coach. The contract is for $25,000 for the year. The Retail Coach is a group that has helped create a database for the city, which can be referenced in efforts to recruit new businesses, Picklesimer said. The city previously signed a contract with the Retail Coach in 2017.
