During the meeting, the council also approved a resolution accepting a bid for a new Toro Reelmaster Mower, which will be used on the city’s new fields in the Chelsea Sports Complex on Highway 11.
“It’s the best to take care of these fields, and that’s what we want to do,” Councilman David Ingram said of the new mower. During discussion of the fields and mower in precouncil, Picklesimer said that he is looking at turf maintenance companies to help the city take care of its now 13 fields.
Also during the meeting, the council:
- Approved two annexation ordinances — one submitted by David and Bethany Perry for a 3.4 acre property on Salser Lane, and the other from John and Norma Lovorn for a 2.3 acre property on Highway 32.
- Discussed public safety numbers. The call volume for police was “down considerably” in the month of November, Picklesimer said.
- Approved to pay the city’s bills.
- Discussed city revenue, which is up. Picklesimer reminded members of the council that while revenue is up, expenses for the city are also up.
- Discussed the installation of a gazebo at the Chelsea Public Library. Chelsea Kiwanis donated the gazebo, and the city will construct the cement pad on which the gazebo will be placed.
- Picklesimer notified the council of the death of Bob Wanninger, the city’s first clerk. Wanninger died on Friday, Dec. 2. “He was a real friend to this city, and I am very proud we were able to honor him,” Picklesimer said. The city had renamed the road to the Chelsea Community Center’s back entrance “Wanninger Way” in honor of him.
The next Chelsea City Council meeting will be Tuesday, Dec. 20. Precouncil will start at 5:30 p.m., the council meeting will start at 6 p.m., and the meeting will be streamed on the city’s Facebook page.
