The "Why Chelsea?" campaign wants to spotlight events like the Big Kaboom to show off the city's quality of life and business environment.
The city of Chelsea is partnering with the Chelsea Business Alliance to implement a "Why Chelsea?" campaign to let people know what Chelsea is all about as a fast-growing city.
Chelsea City Council member Casey Morris introduced the program at the March 13 Chelsea Business Alliance luncheon and said, “if the story of Chelsea is being told, we need to be the ones telling the story and writing the narrative.”
The main component of the campaign is using videos to promote what the city has to offer and why people should choose to live, work or open a business there. It will target nearby cities including Birmingham, Pelham, Helena, Harpersville and Childersburg and show videos of Chelsea restaurants and businesses, encouraging residents from these nearby cities to visit and see what Chelsea has to offer.
“Chelsea has everything you need for a thriving, personal and professional life,” Morris said. “35043 has everything to offer, and it’s time for us to promote that.”
Morris said video is one of the best ways to engage and share with an online audience. They will be recorded and produced by Pitts Media, a Chelsea firm run by 20-year resident Phillip Pitts.
Campaign hashtags will feature the various ways to engage in the community including #eatchelsea, #livechelsea, #shopchelsea, #growchelsea and #workchelsea.
The business spotlight videos will be a chance for business owners to tell their stories in their own words of what it’s like to open a business there. Guests at the lunch were able to see a preview of what the videos will look like.
“We hope to get the support of business alliance members and everyday residents that enjoy Chelsea but want to make it even better,” Morris said. “Our intent is to get these videos in front of as many people as possible.”
The first video will be released in mid-May and spotlight the Fire at the Foothills event, which will be held on April 6. Other events spotlighted will be The Big Kaboom, the Chelsea Christmas parade and football on fall Friday nights. They will be posted on all the city’s social media platforms and website, as well as shared by the businesses involved.
“We will share these videos anywhere we can to get them in front of the largest audience,” Morris said.
Businesses can volunteer to be featured in the promotional video, and with a financial investment, have their own business highlight video made.
