Furniture items will be picked up on the Chelsea bulk trash pick-up day. All items must be less than 6 feet in size.
Chelsea residents will be able to toss a few of their larger items this month during the city’s bulk trash pick-up day on Jan. 13.
Previously, the city’s agreement with Waste Pro included two bulk trash pick-ups per year, Mayor Tony Picklesimer said during the Jan. 2 Chelsea City Council meeting, but after hearing resident feedback they increased the number of days to four.
Items must be placed outside by 6 a.m. on Jan. 13 in order to be picked up. The following rules and restrictions also apply to pick-up:
- No item may weight more than 700 pounds
- No item may be more than 6 feet long
- Items cannot be more than 4 feet from the curb, and must be placed away from overhead obstacles
- Each household will have a pickup limit of 5.5 cubic yards. This breaks down to a pile about 5 feet high, 5 feet deep and 6 feet wide, according to a flyer from the city of Chelsea.
The following items are not accepted: refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, dishwashers, hot water heaters, tires, oil, batteries, engine blocks, window AC units, riding lawnmowers, bug spray, paint cans with liquid paint, televisions or computers
The following items are accepted: grills (with gas or propane tank removed), push lawnmowers (with gas tank removed), paint cans (see special handling below), furniture, mattresses, wood, general debris, stoves, vacuum cleaners, auto interior parts, picnic tables, dismantled swing sets, bicycles, bagged leaves or grass
Paint cans must follow these requirements:
- Paint cans must be set aside from other heavy items for inspection
- Tops of cans must be removed (these can be set next to the cans)
- Paint must be hardened or dry
- Paint cans with liquid paint must be filled with cat litter
