The 2016-2020 Shelby County Commission.
During a brief Shelby County Commission meeting on Oct. 23, County Engineer Randy Cole took time in his report to provide updates on road projects.
In regard to last week’s public involvement meeting about the Cahaba Beach Road project, Cole said they were still considering five plans — one no build alternate, and four alignment alternates. Those five plans will be carried through the environmental document that will go before the Federal Highway Administration.
They hope the FHWA will sign off on the document before next spring, Cole said.
“That’s moving forward at its typical glacial pace. We’re following everything according to the book,” Cole said.
About 125 individuals came to the meeting, Cole said, and there will be more once the FHWA signs off on the environmental document.
Cole also gave an update on Fulton Springs Road in Alabaster. An extension that connects Fulton Springs Road to U.S. 31 has been constructed, and a signal has been installed and set to flash at that intersection, he said. The signal will be turned on Oct. 31, and Cole asked that everyone going through that intersection use caution as others get used to the new signal.
“We just ask the public to be very careful at this intersection until everyone becomes familiar with it,” he said.
Another signal, at the intersection that has turns to either Calera or Columbiana, will be deactivated, Cole said, and a stop sign will be installed.
Also at the meeting:
- The commission approved a grant resolution regarding funding for the county’s 12 airplane hangar project.
- The commission approved a resolution for partial termination and release of convenient and agreement with Dantract Inc. The agreement was to release a portion of property from a water service agreement executed between the county, Dantract and Daniel Realty Company in 1989. The property is located near U.S. 280 and Adena Lane.
