
Election Update
On Aug. 23, Chelsea and Hoover voters will have the chance to elect their 2016-2020 city council members and mayor. 280 Living will provide weekly recaps each week leading up to the election, so you can easily keep up with everything you need to know before you vote.
Here’s Chelsea’s latest:
- Dale Neuendorf announced his run for mayor.
- There will be a voter ID registration event at Chelsea City Hall on July 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There is no charge, and the event is being held to provide a way for voters to obtain a photo ID if they do not have one. For more information, visit alabamavoterid.com.
- There will be candidate forums for Chelsea City Council candidates on Aug. 4 and a forum for mayoral candidates on Aug. 11. Both forums are sponsored by the Chelsea Business Alliance and will take place at Chelsea High School.
Here’s Hoover’s latest:
- Green Valley resident and hotel manager Jason DeLuca on Thursday announced which City Council seat he will seek — Place 6, now held by Brian Skelton.
- Bluffparkal.org is holding a Municipal Candidate Forum for all mayoral and City Council candidates from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 9, at Shades Crest Baptist Church. - The Hoover Sun, Hoover City Schools Foundation and Hoover Rotary Club are sponsoring an election forum featuring mayoral and City Council candidates on Tuesday, Aug. 16, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Birmingham — The Wynfrey Hotel. General information:
- Official qualifying dates for mayoral and council candidates begin Tuesday, July 5 and last until July 19. The Election Guide in 280 Living's July issue for information on how to qualify as a candidate.
- The Election Guide also contains information on polling places, how to register to vote and what to bring to the polls. Voters must register by Aug. 8 and regular absentee ballots must be applied for by Aug. 18.
