An accidental fire at District at the Summit Apartments damaged 10 units.
The fire was caused by “improperly discarded smoking materials” said Birmingham Fire and Rescue Chief Cordell Mardis. It started Saturday just before 4 p.m., and a tenant reported the fire. There was extensive fire, water and smoke damage to the units.
The Red Cross was on the scene to assist displaced residents. No injuries were reported.
