Hoover Mayor Gary Ivey speaks to a crowd gathered for the Hoover City Schools Foundation's "Hoover+Ready" initiative on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2015.
Hoover Mayor Gary Ivey is recovering at home after spending at least one night in the hospital earlier this week with chest pains.
Hoover fire Chief Chuck Wingate said the Fire Department received a call from the mayor’s house in Riverchase about 7 a.m. Monday, with the mayor reporting chest pains.
Wingate said he personally went to the mayor’s house to check on him and rode with him to Brookwood Medical Center in the back of a Fire Department rescue unit. The mayor was admitted but later released and is now home resting, Wingate said. He couldn’t comment any further on the mayor’s medical condition due to health privacy laws, he said.
Ivey, who is 60, is expected to be at the Celebrate Hoover Day at Veterans Park on Saturday, Wingate said.
Efforts to contact Ivey for comment were unsuccessful.
