Meadow Brook continues its long standing tradition of running with its 25th annual 5K and fun run.
The 5K run will begin at 9 a.m. on Dec. 21 with the 1-mile fun run beginning at 10 a.m. Awards and prize drawings will follow the fun run around 10:30 a.m.
Proceeds from the event will go to many evangelical Christian charities, and the rest of the proceeds will go to THE Jesus Video Project of Alabama, according to Race Director Bob Cosby.
He said having a strong returning group of runners has made the Meadow Brook Run a long-standing tradition.
“With its long 25-year history, the MBR is well known in the Birmingham area running community,” Cosby said. “As likely true for all successful long-term yearly events, we have many loyal annual participants. Our master list of registrations contains 4,300 runners and walkers.”
Cosby said there are many cool features added to the run.
“I like food, so we emphasize our ‘Taste of 280’ post-race food table,” he said. “I also like freebies, so we work to have the best gift bags, and the best prize drawing table. In recent years, everyone who hangs around gets a gift of their choice, which in itself often exceeds their donation.”
The favorite part of the event for Crosby is before the running even begins.
“Since this event is all done as an evangelistic Christian outreach to the running community, the brief pre-race testimony and prayer to receive Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, is my favorite and most important aspect.”
Registration is open at meadowbrookruns.org.
