Alan Miller
During the Dec. 4 Chelsea City Council meeting, Alan Miller addressed the council and audience about his running for District Court Judge of Shelby County in the March 3 Republican primary.
A Graduate of Tulane University and the University of Alabama School of Law, Miller will also become a 30-year veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and Marine Corps reserves in 2020.
For the last 16 years, Miller has served as a prosecutor in the Shelby County District Attorney’s office where he has served in every role and was given the opportunity to help Judge Bill Bostick start one of the first veteran support programs in the state of Alabama.
Miller was also selected to lead Compact 2020, a county-wide drug prevention and initiative.
“I wanted to give you that history because it’s important to see my history of service,” Miller said. “It’s important during a campaign to look at the history of service of candidates. It also shows a commitment to excellence.”
Miller added that what has set Shelby County apart from other counties is that the county commission, city council and leaders are driving toward excellence in everything they do.
Council member Tiffany Bittner gave an update on Eli Hairston as he continues his recovery in Children’s Hospital following a golf cart accident several weeks ago. He has been moved from PICU to recovery/rehab floor where he will stay until he is released.
“He has started aggressive physical therapy and occupational therapy,” Bittner said. “It’s a slow recovery process and his dad, Jay, said the family is so appreciative of all the prayers and support.”
Mayor Picklesimer added that he is so pleased to see how the community has come together.
During the meeting, the council approved three resolutions to award Nick Grant funds to the Chelsea High School math department, the Chelsea High School athletic department and the Chelsea Park Elementary Special Education department.
“This is good news for some of our teachers and administrators at our schools,” Picklesimer said. “This funding is from the first waves of grant applications that will be funded before the end of this calendar year.”
Other resolutions approved included:
- to accept a quote from Stagedrop, LLC for an adjustable stage for the Chelsea Community Center
- approval to allow the city to accept materials from the Shelby County Commission as a gift to the city of Chelsea
- approval to pay the bills
The next council meeting will be held Dec. 17 with pre-council at 5 p.m. and regular council meeting at 6 p.m.
