The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) of Greater Birmingham is expanding its programs to the North Shelby Library.
A community outreach of the University of Alabama College of Continuing Studies, the program currently has approximately 225 members in this local chapter and offers classes, field trips, bonus programs and social events.
In the past, classes have been largely held in Vestavia, but after hosting some trial classes at the North Shelby Library last fall, the group decided to make North Shelby Library another spot for their classes beginning in the spring semester.
Other greater Birmingham locations include the Vestavia Hills Civic Center, Vestavia Hills Library in the Forest, Homewood Public Library, Levite Jewish Community Center, Hoover Senior Center and Emmett O’Neal Library in Mountain Brook.
A volunteer-led program, OLLI focuses on lifelong learning and socialization. The annual membership fee is $50, and there is a required $50 fee each semester.
Offerings at NSL will include topics of history, health, hobbies and more. The spring semester runs through March 2020. A lunch bunch outing will take place each week, along with a We Love OLLI party Feb. 12.
An open house introducing the summer semester will be May 7 at 2:30 p.m. at the Homewood Public Library.
