Participants in the 2017 Adam’s Heart Runs surround Dr. Adam Robertson (red jacket), for whom the event is named. A long-time Birmingham physician, Robertson served as race director for decades beginning in 1977.
Birmingham Track Club will host one of its most popular annual events, Adam’s Heart Runs, at Oak Mountain State Park, Saturday, Jan. 20.
The event features 10K and 10-mile chip-timed races, both beginning at 9 a.m.
Now in its 41st year, the event is named for the founding race director, Adam Robertson, who still volunteers at the race.
A Birmingham physician and avid runner, Robertson served as race director — along with his wife, Ginni — for many years beginning in 1977.
“You can find him handing out awards on race day,” race director Lisa Booher said.
The runs, which usually draw 250 to 350 runners, are held on paved roads at the park, according to Booher.
Participants “will find rolling hills and, typically, cool weather that is perfect for racing,” she said.
The event features snacks, prizes and kids activities.
“As a mom of four, I focus on making Adam’s Heart Runs a family-friendly event with a finish line that runners and their families will enjoy,” Booher said.
The event raises money to support the BTC, a nonprofit that promotes running for fitness and recreation.
Packet pickup is available at The Trak Shak in Homewood, Friday, Jan. 19, 11 a.m. to 5:50 p.m. Registration and packet pickup are available in the Dogwood Pavilion at the park on race day from 7:30-8:45 a.m.
