The second annual All In For Fragile X Casino Night is set for March 9. The 2018 event raised $500 to support the National Fragile X Foundation and local chapter.
Fragile X syndrome is a rare genetic condition related to the X-chromosome that causes a range of intellectual disabilities.
To help raise money and awareness about the syndrome, the Central Alabama Chapter of the National Fragile X Foundation will be hosting its second All In For Fragile X Casino Night on March 9 at 6 p.m.
The casino night, which will be similar to 2018’s version with live music, hors d’oeuvres and prizes, will be at Heatherwood Hills Country Club at 400 St. Annes Drive.
The event will benefit the national foundation, as well as the Alabama chapter, said Matt Rhodes, Central Alabama chapter leader.
“Fundraisers are unique in that they serve two- or three-fold, because they’re fundraisers – organizations by their very nature need funds to be supported – but they’re also a great avenue to spread awareness to the public about this disorder,” he said.
Last year’s casino night, which was held at the same location in April, raised more than $500 that funded the international conference held every two years and provided local resources, Rhodes said.
Other than moving the event up a month due to goers’ availability, the event will be similar to the last, he said.
“Since we’ve only done it one year, we’re experimenting with the times and the dates,” he said.
In order to “step it up this year,” Rhodes said they have gotten a head start on planning. Tickets are $50 and include food, a drink ticket and play money for casino-style games with actual dealers.
